FREE Credit Reports

September 26th, 2005

For those of you who are starting to keep track of your credit reports because of all the identity theft etc. going around, here is some good news I found while reading MONEY magazine (Oct. 05):

As of Sept. 1st, each bureau must send one free copy a year to everyone who requests it…
Go to annualcreditreport.com, or call 877-322-8228

I did this last night and it was really EASY, (10 mins):

  1. Go to annualcreditreport.com
  2. Enter your state
  3. Fill out the form (Truncate your SS#)
  4. Choose one of the 3 bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion or Experian)
  5. Follow the easy steps
  6. You can do a quick bird’s eye review of your report
  7. Make sure all is well
  8. If so, return in 4 months and do it over again with one of the remaining bureaus, If you have problems get them resolved pronto.
  9. I believe this can be done for each SS#, so do the same for your spouse as well.
